The BiVACOR ‘Bionic Heart’

Bionic Heart

The BiVACOR ‘bionic heart’: an artificial heart small enough to fit inside a child’s chest but powerful enough to support an adult.

Invented by Dr Daniel Timms (the son of a Queensland plumber), this device could help thousands who are in desperate need of a heart transplant. With a limited number of donor hearts available each year, it is currently impossible to meet the needs of all patients. Waiting for the right-sized heart and the right blood type may become a thing of the past as a result of the bionic heart.
